Peter Hantz (born February 1, 1974 in Klausenburg ) is a Hungarian biophysicist and inventor. He conducts research in the field of reaction diffusion systems and translational medicine .

Career

He studied physics (1992-1998) at the Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj and at the Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest. In 1998 he was a visiting student at Oxford University . He received his PhD in 2006 from the Chair of Theoretical Physics at the University of Geneva .

Between 2003 and 2006 he was a lecturer at the Faculty of Theoretical Physics at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. He then received a postdoctoral fellowship at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, where he studied gene expression patterns. From 2011 to 2015 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Medical Biology in Basel, where he did research in the field of retinal electrophysiology. In 2016 he was a research assistant at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne . From 2017 to 2020 he was a senior researcher at the Medical Faculty of the University of Pécs (Hungary). From 2020 he will be visiting researcher at the Institute of Chemistry at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. In 2019 he founded a startup in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, which he is currently running. He is the author and co-author of scientific publications, popular science papers and several patents.

He is known for a reaction-diffusion system (see Hantz reactions ) that is relatively easy to implement and has similarities to Liesegang's rings with periodic patterns, but also shows a number of other pattern formations in the manner of chemical waves .

Activity in non-governmental organizations

From 2004 to 2015 deputy chairman of the “Initiative Bolyai” committee, which campaigned for the reopening of the Hungarian State University in Romania.

He has uncovered several significant cases of plagiarism involving senior academics from Romania.

He is a member of the board of directors of the international chimney cake trading company, which he founded in 2013.
