from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter K. Zahn (born May 5, 1966 in Seligenstadt ) is a German anesthetist and intensive care doctor. Since January 1, 2011, he has been the director of the clinic for anesthesiology, intensive care, palliative and pain medicine at the Bergmannsheil University Hospital in Bochum.

Life

After studying medicine and completing his doctorate at Ulm University, Peter Zahn went to the USA for a research stay from 1995 to 1999, where he worked at the Laboratories for Pain Research at the University of Iowa. He then moved to Münster University Hospital, where he was appointed senior physician in the clinic and polyclinic for anesthesiology and operative intensive care medicine. Through various additional qualifications (including "Special Anesthesiological Intensive Care Medicine" and "Transesophageal Echocardiography"), Peter Zahn expanded his clinical spectrum. His clinical focus is on cardio anesthesia, intensive care medicine, neuro anesthesia and pain therapy. After completing his habilitation on the subject of “Neurophysiological mechanisms of postoperative pain”, Peter Zahn received the venia legendi for anesthesiology and operative intensive care medicine in 2003. In the scientific field, he intensified his research, for example, on questions of pain research and pain therapy with a focus on spinal and peripheral processing of acute and persistent pain. For example, he and Esther Pogatzki-Zahn established the new laboratory division “Experimental Pain Medicine” in Münster. On January 1, 2011, Peter Zahn moved to Bochum at the Bergmannsheil University Clinic . Here he was appointed to succeed Michael Zenz as the new director of the clinic for anesthesiology, intensive care, palliative and pain medicine.
