Peter Kralyuk ( Ukrainian Петро́ Миха́йлович Кралю́к ; born February 23, 1958 in Kiwerzi , Volyn Oblast ) is a Ukrainian philosopher, writer and scientist.

Life

At the beginning of his career he worked as a teacher in a village school. Later, Kralyuk taught at a college. He graduated from the Institute of Social Sciences at the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. At the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, Kralyuk received his doctorate in 1988 with the topic: "Antitrinitarianism and public opinion in Ukraine, second half of the 16th century - first half of the 17th century" and in 1998 with a doctoral thesis: " The specifics of the interaction between denominational and national consciousness in Ukrainian public opinion, 16th century - first half of 17th century "

Since 2005, Petro Kralyuk has been the main director of the specialized doctoral council for religious studies (historical sciences) at the Ostrog Academy. He is currently also the first prorector of this scientific educational institution. Petro Kralyuk is a member of the National Association of Ukrainian Writers.

Kralyuk was a prizewinner at the international literary competition “Granoslov” in 1992 and at the All-Ukrainian competition “Ukraine. The Spiritual Island ”, 2008. He was also awarded the Svitoch Prize (премія імені Світочів), 2008 and the Gogol International Literary Prize“ Triumph ”, 2009.

Literary and scientific works

In his scientific work, Petro Kralyuk asked about the revision of traditional schemes of the history of philosophy in Ukraine by Dmitrij Tschižewskij. Petro Kralyuk is of the opinion that the traces of the Ukrainian history of philosophy can be found not in the times of the Kievan Rus, but in the ancient times. In his research, he draws the scientific attention to the aristocratic character of medieval Ukrainian culture. Petro Kralyuk is editor of the encyclopedia “Ostroger Academy in the 16th-17th Centuries” (2010)

In Petro Kralyuk's literary works, a combination of traditional and postmodern elements can be found. As a prose writer, Petro Kralyuk is known for his satirical works and historical fiction.
