Peter M. Lengyel

Peter M. Lengyel (born June 5, 1946 in New York City ) is an American jazz pianist , composer and arranger .

Lengyel earned a bachelor's degree from Glasboro St. College and a master's in music theory from Indiana University in 1973 . He then worked as a university lecturer until 1985, in later years as a composer and arranger for jazz bands and orchestras; he also taught. Lengyel was director of P&D Jazz Publications and from 1971 to 1981 director of the Faculty of Jazz Studies at Eastfield College in Texas. As a musician, arranger and composer he worked a. a. with Don Ellis , Bill Watrous , Clark Terry and Frank Rosolino . He wrote a number of compositions for jazz ensembles, as well as four symphonic pieces. His work Jazzorphosis was commissioned by the Army Ground Forces Band. In 1983, 1984 and 1985 he was honored for his music education achievements by the University of Texas at Arlington College.
