Peter Mennel (born May 5, 1955 in Bregenz ) is an Austrian lawyer and general secretary of the Austrian Olympic Committee .

Life

After studying law, Peter Mennel worked in banking for almost 30 years, most recently as CEO in charge of the restructuring of Sparkasse Bregenz Bank AG . In October 2010 the Vorarlberg resident moved to the Austrian Olympic Comité in Vienna as Secretary General.

In addition to his full-time work at the ÖOC, Peter Mennel is also the financial officer of the Austrian Ski Association (since 1999), President of the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League (EBEL, from 2013 to 2019) and Chairman of the Marketing and Communication Commission of the European Olympic Committees (since 2014 ). From 2007 to 2013 the father of two was also the head of the “ Sparkasse Drei-Länder-Marathon ” in Bregenz, and in 2015 he was the head of the European Youth Olympic Games in Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein (January 25th - 30th).

Peter Mennel is married and has two daughters. His sister Bernadette Mennel is a teacher and ÖVP politician. His hobbies include a. flying and extreme mountaineering. In 2007 he completed the 138th registered circumnavigation of the world (with a single-engine aircraft) in the history of international aviation. Other sporting successes of Peter Mennel include: 9-time Austrian paraski master, world champion and Austrian master in helicopter navigation and precision flight, 2-time national champion in parachuting (free fall formation).
