Peter Struck (educational scientist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Struck (* 1942 in Hamburg ) has held a professorship for educational science at the University of Hamburg since 1979 .

Life

Struck studied education, biology and criminology. He was an elementary and secondary school teacher for ten years and then for four years a school designer in the authority for schools, youth and vocational training in Hamburg. Since 1979 he has held a professorship for educational science with a focus on social and school education, educational policy, youth research, family education and media education.

Struck has written popular books in which he accuses schools of completely misguided orientation. He fights against the subject teacher principle and challenges the socially committed class teacher who also understands something about nutrition, exercise, behavioral disorders, violence and addiction prevention and media education. With reference to the results of brain research, Struck calls for a learning culture that z. B. takes into account that children learn best in pairs, d. H. when they explain what is to be learned to others or when they are explained by their peers. «Classes should therefore be transformed into learning families with a workshop character, schools into learning villages. Children learn better by acting and speaking than by listening. Another error culture is necessary , as children learn about detours and wrong ways. Only older young people should receive grades. " The information transfer could be entrusted to the new media , but more project work and promotion of social skills could be done. Struck is often questioned as an education expert in the media and was thus able to present his theses broadly. His publications and theses are very controversial in scientific circles, as they are seldom based on careful scientific empiricism, but rather reflect impressions, assumptions and pseudo-plausible claims.
