Peter Wenners

Peter Karl Wenners (born August 15, 1950 in Kiel ) is a German linguist and literary scholar, educator and non-fiction author.

Peter Wenners finished his education at the Hebbelschule in Kiel in 1969 with the Abitur. In the same year he began studying German, geography, Scandinavian and art history as well as pedagogy and sociology at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. The study period ended in 1976 with the scientific examination for the higher teaching post, the first state examination in the subjects of German and geography. From 1976 to 1978 Wenners trained as a trainee teacher at the Carl-Jacob-Burckhardt-Gymnasium in Lübeck. From 1978 to 1993 he taught German and geography at the Heinrich Heine School in Heikendorf.

In 1985, Peter Wenners completed his doctorate with his dissertation on "The Probsteier Family Names from the 14th to the 19th Century" and the oral examination in the subjects of German studies, geography and art history. From 1991-1993 he worked at the German Institute of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel as a lecturer for the subject didactics of German lessons. On behalf of the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education, he was also a member of the curriculum commission for the subject German secondary level I and II from 1991 to 1998.

In 1993 Peter Wenners was elected head of the Altenholz grammar school. He held this position for over 22 years until he was retired in 2016. After his retirement, from 2016 to 2020 he was the educational and scientific director of the St. Peter-Ording Junior Academy, a support program for highly talented young people from Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.

Wenners has been writing historical non-fiction books about Kiel and Schleswig-Holstein since 2016.

Peter Wenners has been married since 1981 and has two daughters and lives in Kronshagen near Kiel.
