Peter Zirbes was a native, art and portrait painter. Landscape pictures in lavish watercolors, drawn cityscapes, true-to-the-original copies of old masters and even more sketchy drawings comprise his work. Most famous are his drawn portraits. Within a very short time he was able to capture the heads of his contemporaries precisely on paper. His pictures always speak of the irrepressible zest for life and love for his environment, which he painted and drew. His numerous portraits show in their serious expression the respect that Zirbes showed his fellow men. His landscapes, on the other hand, are colorful and flooded with light. The artist, who comes from the Eifel, has chosen Rotenburg as his home and with his pictures showed the people of the region their home from a different perspective.
