Petra Müssig (born February 13, 1965 in Konstanz ) is a German snowboarder . She was world champion in 1987, 1988 and 1989 and in the years 1987-1993 she was overall world cup champion in snowboarding thirteen times .

Life

Petra Müssig started snowboarding at the age of fourteen. In 1987 she took part in her first international competition. In 1987, 1989 and 1990 she won the world title of snowboarding. In terms of the number of titles and the diversity of the five sub-disciplines, Petra Müssig was the most successful snowboard competitor in the history of this sport until 2008. Petra Müssig, known in the circles as the "grande dame of snowboarding", accompanied the first years of this young sport with her sporting success and is considered a pioneer of snowboarding. Between 1987 and 1993 she achieved the overall World Cup victory in snowboarding thirteen times.

In 1987 Petra Müssig was a founding member of the first snowboard association in Germany. From 1994 to 1996 she was the trainer of the Slovenian national youth team and from 2003 to 2005 the national trainer of the German national snowboard freestyle team. As press spokeswoman she represented the interests of the International Snowboarding Federation until 1993. In 1993 she withdrew from international competitions.

Müssig received a commercial apprenticeship and after finishing her professional career in the sports industry, she worked in marketing and press work. Today she offers training and further education for trainers, athletes, clubs and associations and runs a training and further education institute in adult education together with her partner. In 2018, Müssig finished her training as a teacher for MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction). She is the author of the books "Success is Mind" (2009) and "Mountain Pleasure Instead of Heights" (2011).
