Petri Kotwica (* 1964 in Pargas ) is a Finnish film director and screenwriter .

Kotwica studied philosophy and literature at the University of Helsinki from 1992 to 1998 . This was followed by film studies at the Helsinki University of Art and Design . After numerous short films, he made his first feature film in 2005 with Koti-ikävä (“Homesickness”). The youth drama tells of a seventeen year old who is brought to a youth psychiatry after attempting suicide.

In his next film Musta jää (“Black Ice Cream”, 2007), a woman seeks out her husband's lover to get to know her better. The film was awarded the Jussi in six categories and was shown in the competition at the Berlinale 2008 .
