Petronax

Petronax (* around 670 in Brescia ; † May 7, 747 in Monte Cassino ) was abbot in the Monte Cassino monastery.

Life

Petronax lived with some like-minded people as hermits in the ruins of the Monte Cassino monastery, which was destroyed by the Lombards in 581 . In 717 he received instructions from Pope Gregory II to rebuild the monastery. Petronax became abbot of the newly established monastery and spiritual teacher of Sturmius and Willibald . He received 742 the original of the monastic rule of St. Benedict by Pope Zacharias .
