Petrov is an impact crater on the southeastern edge of the lunar front , south of Mare Australe , south of Lyot crater and west of Chamberlin . The rim of the crater is heavily eroded, the interior largely flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1970 after the Soviet rocket engineer Yevgeny Petrovich Petrov .
