Petrus (Indonesia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to official information, the Petrus initiative in Indonesia is a crime -fighting measure that took place between 1983 and 1985 during the Suharto era . Depending on the estimate, between 3000 and 10,000 criminals are said to have been killed without legal proceedings. Their bodies were put on display in public places. These measures created intimidation among the population. The background to the killings remained unclear to large parts of the population at the time. The term peter is an acronym and is made up of the words penembak (an) misterius , which means something like "mysterious shots".
