The Petrussa Index is used to assess the maturity of newborns .

Ear shape unformed soft firmly
skin transparent thin rosy, firm
Nipples only recognizable as a red dot Areola <5 mm Areola> 5 mm
Testicles not palpable high in the scrotum descends
Labia labia majora <labia minora labia majora = labia minora labia majora> labia minora
soles no wrinkles distal folds wrinkles everywhere

0-2 points are given for each of these six criteria (the testes and labia criteria are gender-dependent). The maturity age ( gestation week ) is then calculated from the number of points + 30.
