Peyresq
Peyresq is a village in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in France . It belongs to the municipality of Thorame-Haute . The village is located at the foot of the Cassille , part of the Courradour mountain , at the end of a road that comes from the La Colle-Saint-Michel pass and is at 1528 meters above the Vaïre valley .
The place was first mentioned in 1042 with the name "Petriscum", a term that refers to the stony terrain.
Peyresq is the namesake of the great humanist Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc (1580–1637), who, however, never entered the place.
In 1964, Peyresq merged with Colle-Saint-Michel to form the municipality of Saint-Michel-Peyresq, which has belonged to Thorame-Haute since 1974. Today in Peyresq mainly scientific conferences and summer schools are held.
