The Pfälzer Katholische Kirchenschaffnei in Heidelberg is a foundation of the Archdiocese of Freiburg based in Heidelberg . It administers Catholic church property in the former part of North Baden in the Electoral Palatinate.

task

The purpose of the foundation is to “pay for the building needs of local Catholic legal entities at churches and parsonages in the former part of Baden in the Electoral Palatinate”. In addition to 42 churches, the Schaffnei in North Baden also manages rectories, other church buildings and agricultural and forestry land. The “Heidelberger Schaffnei” is known to the general public above all as a leaseholder of land on a long lease basis.

history

In the course of secularization at the beginning of the 19th century, the monasteries in the Electoral Palatinate were dissolved. The now electoral assets were administered in so-called "Schaffneien" (authorities) by "Schaffnern" (office managers), z. B. in the "Schaffnei Lobenfeld" or "Schaffnei Sinsheim". On January 1, 1873, the North Baden Schaffneien were united to the "Palatinate Catholic Church Schaffnei in Heidelberg".
