Palatinate-Rhenish family history

The Pfälzisch-Rheinische Familienkunde eV has around 750 members in Germany and abroad and is one of the larger genealogical associations in Germany. He is a member of the German Working Group on Genealogical Associations (DAGV).

The origin of family research in the Palatinate goes back to 1925. After the Second World War, there was a new beginning with the association name “Working Group for Palatinate Family and Heraldry” (1952–1972). Since 1959 it has been a registered association with its seat in Ludwigshafen am Rhein . Then it was registered as the "Working Group for Palatinate-Rhenish Family Studies eV" (1972-1995).

This is to symbolize the care area Rheinhessen-Pfalz. Because of the care area, a change of the club's name to "Palatinate-Rhine Hessian Family Studies" was requested on April 30, 2011, but was rejected by a majority on April 22, 2012 at the annual general meeting in Erlenbach near Kandel .

Club activity, content and regional

The association's activity serves to maintain and promote family history and heraldry in the Palatinate and Rhine-Hesse region. The association promotes the publication of research results from the subject areas it represents. Within the historical auxiliary sciences, the focus is on genealogy with personal, family and migration history. Initially one also dealt with the heraldry . With these main areas of activity, the regional area of Rheinhessen-Pfalz , in the former Electoral Palatinate , the areas of the diocese of Worms and the diocese of Speyer are worked on .

There are regular meetings at the district groups in Kaiserslautern, Kandel, Kusel, Landau, Ludwigshafen, Neustadt adW, Pirmasens, Rockenhausen, Schifferstadt, Worms and Zweibrücken.

An annual general meeting and a training event support the general activities of the association with current topics, also externally.

Library and archive

The association maintains a library in the building of the city archive in Ludwigshafen.

  • The inventory of books and folders is almost 10,000 pieces.
  • The Palatinate (and Rheinhessian) surname index contains around 1 million names.
  • Some extensive research work was bequeathed to the association and is available.

Publications

The association publishes the journal Pfälzisch-Rheinische Familienkunde ( Palatinate Family History and Heraldry , since 1952), as well as two non-periodical series of supplements to the Palatinate-Rhenish Family Studies (since 1960) and publications on the population history of the Palatinate countries (since 1956). The Institute for Palatinate History and Folklore in Kaiserslautern supports the publications with contributions on the migratory movement of the Palatinate people.
