The stake was a Batavian measure of travel and corresponded to the distance that could be covered in a quarter of an hour. This measure in the Dutch East Indies ( Batavia , Java ) was set off against the duodecimal divided Rhenish rod . The stake was equivalent to 300 rods or 1700 paces (medium).

  • 1 pole = 300 rods = 3600 feet (Rhineland) corresponds to 1.3 kilometers (rounded)
    • 1 rod = 5 2/3 stride = 12 feet (1 F. Rhineland = 0.3138536 meters )
