Nancy Hamilton
Nancy Hamilton (born July 27, 1908 in Sewickley , Pennsylvania , † February 18, 1985 in New York City , New York ) was an American songwriter , screenwriter and actress .
Career
Hamilton started out as a stage actress and took part in the 1932 play The Warrior's Husband . After further appearances in the 1930s, she wrote scripts for plays but also for the comedy film Madame have rung the bell? , with Fernand Gravey and Carole Lombard , published in 1938. In 1940 she wrote the song How High the Moon with Morgan Lewis , which was covered several times or used as the soundtrack in films or television series. In 1943 she wrote the screenplay for the film musical Du Barry Was a Lady by Roy Del Ruth , which was produced by MGM . She made her directorial debut in the documentary The Unconquered and received an Oscar in the category " Best Documentary " at the 1959 Academy Awards .
