As a joint venture between the 24 cantonal banks, the Pfandbrief headquarters of Schweizerische Kantonalbanken AG is one of the two Swiss Pfandbrief institutions. It was founded in 1931 and is based in Zurich .

Legal basis

The Swiss Pfandbrief Act forms the legal basis for the Pfandbriefzentrale. This restricts the right to issue Pfandbriefe to two institutions whose activities are restricted to issuing Pfandbriefe. The other institute is Pfandbriefbank schweizerischer Hypothekarinstitute AG .

According to the Pfandbrief Act, the Pfandbriefzentrale der Schweizerische Kantonalbanken AG has the purpose of "... providing real estate owners with long-term mortgage loans at the lowest possible interest rate."

Field of activity

In order to fulfill its legal mandate, the Pfandbriefzentrale regularly issues Swiss Pfandbriefe ® and grants its members, the 24 cantonal banks involved in the share capital, loans against mortgage cover to help finance the mortgage business . At the end of 2019, Pfandbriefzentrale had outstanding Swiss Pfandbriefe ® with a total value of 58,270 billion Swiss francs with an average interest rate of 0.69%.

The bonds of the Pfandbriefzentrale of the Swiss Cantonal Banks AG have an Aaa rating from the rating agency Moody’s .
