Willie Seaweed

Willie Seaweed (* around 1873 in Nugent Sound , British Columbia , † 1967 in Blunden Harbor ) was a wood carver of the Canadian indigenous people, the First Nations . Other names of the artist were Hiłamas , Kwaxitola , Xandzasamudy , Yakulala , Mukwitalasuu and Smoky-Top .

Life

Seaweed was a wood carver of the Kwakiutl , the northern Kwakwaka'wakw . He made many objects that were used in the society of his time, such as carving totem poles , decorated wooden houses, masks and pipes, as well as carving small totem poles that were sold to tourists.
