The Roman Catholic Abbey Parish Church in the municipality of Gallizien is dedicated to St. Leonhard . A church in Abbey or Apače mentioned in 1289 belonged to Möchling's own church at that time. In 1512 the church was named St. Leonhard in Klain Wayschach. The name Abbey goes back to the long affiliation of the place and the church to St. Paul Abbey in Lavanttal .

Building description

The church is a medium-sized late Gothic building from the 16th century. The choir, the nave and the western vestibule have the same width and height. In the slightly protruding facade tower hangs a bell cast by Vinzent Gollner in 1834. The mural of St. Leonhard in the vestibule was probably made in the 16th century. In the three- bay nave, a star vault rises above semicircular wall templates. A pointed triumphal arch connects the nave with the choir. The one-bay choir with groin vault has a round-arched choir closure built in 1561.

Facility

On the baroque high altar are the late Gothic figures of St. Leonhard and the two Johannes, created around 1500. The other statues date from the third quarter of the 17th century. The picture on the left side altar is a copy of the Lamentation of Christ by Thomas von Villach . The original donated by Abbot Jöbstl Jöbstlberg is in the Carinthian State Museum . The right side altar was built in the last quarter of the 17th century, the organ with double doors before 1700.
