The Roman Catholic parish church of Grainbrunn is located in the north of the village of Grainbrunn in the market town of Sallingberg in the Zwettl district in Lower Austria . The parish and pilgrimage church , dedicated to the feast of the Assumption of Mary , belongs to the Deanery Zwettl of the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building .

history

In 1544 the place was documented as a branch of the parish Großreinprechts . The place was first mentioned as a place of pilgrimage in 1674. A hermitage was founded in 1694. The church was built between 1694 and 1696 with Bartholomäus Hochhaltinger. In 1783 the church was elevated to a parish church. The tower was built in 1846 with Leopold Pichler. 1898 and 1929 were renovations.

architecture

The short, almost square nave is followed by a low, drawn-in choir with a triangular closure. A low, closed passage under a pent roof was built around the choir. In the north of the choir is also the sacristy annex. The slender, front-built west tower is three-story with arched sound windows and has an onion helmet.

Furnishing

The baroque high altar around 1700 has a column structure with a blown gable with a top and sacrificial passage portals.
