Parish Church of Saint George (Timenitz)
The Roman Catholic parish church of Saint George in the clustered village of Timenitz in the market town of Magdalensberg in Carinthia is a listed building .
history
The church was mentioned in a document in 1217. The late Gothic building was changed in the 19th century. The stone slab roofs were restored in 1986. In 1991 an interior restoration took place, in 1993 an overall restoration took place.
architecture
The church stands on a hill that slopes steeply to the east, surrounded by the cemetery with the cemetery wall. The brick cemetery portal has a corrugated gable from the Biedermeier period . The retracted Gothic choir has buttresses. The northern extension stands on an old ossuary with a central pillar. To the south of the choir stands the Gothic tower with a pointed helmet and ogival sound openings. On the southern tower facade is a Gothic fresco of St. Christopher (around 1480), which was uncovered in 1986. The Gothic architectural polychromy has been restored. The large brick canopy in the west from the first half of the 19th century stands on Tuscan columns and has a groin vault and pressed arches on three sides. Above that on the west wall, four-pass blends. The nave windows have a plaster frame. The north portal is walled up. The Gothic west portal has a profiled round arched wall and a door with Gothic fittings. In the southern outer wall of the church is a Roman stone with a funerary inscription for the mayor of Virunum , cohort commanders and staff officer C. Viatorius (CIL III 4859).
