The Roman Catholic parish church in Kirchberg an der Raab stands at the highest point in the village of Kirchberg an der Raab in the large community of Kirchberg an der Raab in Styria . The parish church of St. Florian belongs to the dean's office in Feldbach in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The church building is a listed building .

history

The church was named in a document in 1265 and raised to parish church in 1381. The late Gothic church building, built from 1510 to 1526 according to a former vaulted inscription, was later expanded in the Baroque style. An interior restoration was carried out in 1972 and 2009 and an exterior renovation in 2018.

architecture

The four-bay nave was provided in the 2nd half of the 17th century with groin vaults and belts and with chapels extending from the 3rd bay. The three-axis organ gallery has a swinging parapet. The single-bay choir with five-eighth end has double stepped buttresses on the outside and a strong and partially invisible ribbed vault on the inside. To the north of the choir is a sacristy with a gallery that extends to the nave. On the south side there is an oratory opened with a round arch with a gallery above with a baroque parapet. There is a small sacrament niche in the choir. In the sacristy there is a late Gothic cup stone. The late Gothic west tower with triangular gable and a structured onion dome was included in the baroque facade design.

There is an oval epitaph for Count Siegbert Heister († 1718).

The sanctuary

The interior is from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. The high altar shows the altarpiece St. Florian painted by the painter Wonsidler (1850). The side altars are dedicated to Saints Ulrich and Leonhard. The pulpit was created by the sculptor Johann C. Schultz. The right chapel altar from the beginning of the 18th century shows a picture of Mary in the style of the painter Hans Adam Weissenkircher . There is the picture of the Last Supper and a figure of Mary with child on clouds, both from the mid-18th century.

The organ with a parapet positive is from the 2nd quarter of the 18th century and was restored in 1972 and 2019. There is a bell from 1457 and a bell from 1547. In 2013 the bell cage and the bells were renovated. A new small bell from Grassmayr was also added, which was dedicated to St. George, the patron saint of the late pastor Dr. Georg Stoff, was consecrated. The ringing is a salvo Regina with a doubled keynote.
