Parish Church of Sorrowful Mary

The parish church in painful Maria is a Roman Catholic church in the municipality of Kitzeck im Sausal in Styria.

The church was built from 1640 to 1644 as a foundation by Philipp Trinkel from Leibnitz . In 1788 the branch church of Sankt Nikolai im Sausal was raised to an independent parish church. After a fire in the old tower, a new tower with a hood and lantern was built over the north facade in 1835. In 1908 a transept was added.

The three-bay nave with a transept with a crossing and a choir is vaulted on girders. The high altar in rococo style from the last third of the 18th century has a carved Pietà . There is a neo-baroque Rochus altar. The figurative glass paintings were made by the Innsbruck glass painting company in 1980. There are pictures of St. Florian and St. Rochus by the painter Matth. Zeldner from 1846.
