The parish church of the Assumption of Mary is a Roman Catholic church in the municipality of Markgrafneusiedl in Lower Austria and belongs to the Marchfeld deanery .

The large, essentially Gothic church on the northern Hintausstrasse is surrounded by a cemetery.

External church building

The high nave with pilasters and a surrounding cornice has arched windows and a mighty gable roof. The simple west facade with arched windows and a pointed gable has a niche with a baroque figure of Maria Immaculata from the 18th century, which is flanked by round windows. The Gothic choir has high pointed arch windows and sturdy buttresses with water hammer. In the north, in the corner of the nave and the choir, there is the single-storey, former Gothic sacristy with small, early Gothic windows. In the south, the baroque, single-storey sacristy from 1753 with pilaster strips is added. The gothic east tower, which is square up to the roof ridge, is located above the western chorus yoke and continues in an octagonal shape. It has ogival sound windows, a recent tent roof and a slightly protruding staircase to the south.

In the cemetery, near the south wall of the nave, there are some baroque tombstones from the 2nd half of the 18th century.

Inner church building

The three-bay nave is vaulted between belts on pillars with stuccoed pilasters. The three-part, arched gallery rests on pillars. The triumphal arch has a pointed arch. The two-bay choir with a five-eighth closure has a ribbed vault with keystones, the eastern one with a figural Lamb of God . The two vaults of the choir bays are separated by reinforcing pillars on the tower ground floor. The two-bay, former sacristy has a ribbed vault with keystones on consoles from around 1330 and a late Gothic portal. The baroque sacristy has a square vault. A crypt with an ossuary for the warriors who fell in the Battle of Deutsch-Wagram in 1809 extends under the choir to the middle of the nave . The stained glass windows were created in 1911.

Furnishing

The high altar on a free-standing canteen with a late classical tabernacle with adoring angels was built in 1836. The altarpiece of the Assumption on the choir wall was painted in 1772 by Johann Karl Auerbach. The side altars date from the middle of the 18th century. The left altar shows the image of St. Martin from the 1st quarter of the 20th century with the baroque side figures of Saints Apollonia and Ottilia and in the excerpt Putti, the right altar the image of Christ on the cross with poor souls from 1758, including the image of Our Lady of Sorrows from the middle of the 18th century. Century and the baroque side figures Maria and Johannes. There are the figures of Saints Peter and Paul, formerly on the high altar from 1836. A Sacred Heart statue and the figure of St. Josef are from the beginning of the 20th century. The Stations of the Cross are from the 1st half of the 19th century. The prayer chairs are from 1784. The 18th century Maritime chandelier hung in the chapel of Augarten Castle in Vienna until 1902. The baroque font is from the end of the 17th century. In the sacristy there is a baroque sacristy cabinet with a crucifixion group and a crucifix from the 2nd half of the 18th century. In the former sacristy there is a baroque carrying altar dated 1688.

The rich, baroque organ case was created by Johann Ignaz Wiest in 1870. The organ work is from 1955.

Rectory

The simple two-storey building with a gable roof is marked 1616 above the arched portal at the side.
