Gustav Engelkes
Gustav Engelkes ( pseudonym : Ulrich Schipper , born August 30, 1905 as Gustav Wilhelm Gerhard Engelkes in Westgaste , East Friesland ; † April 13, 1973 in Norden (East Friesland) ) was a German journalist and writer .
Life
Gustav Engelkes was the eighth and youngest child of a teacher. Since 1916, he visited the Ulrich School in the north , which he in 1921 relegated was. He then began a commercial apprenticeship , which he broke off in 1925. The wandering life that followed, which he u. a. led to Switzerland and Austria , Engelke was ended by a serious illness during a stay in Italy , so that he was forced to return to his parents' house. Another trip took him to Belgium in 1928 . Later he ran a margarine agency and a press agency together with a brother . Since 1931 he was a freelance writer ; six children were born from their marriage in the same year.
Gustav Engelkes took part in the Second World War as a medic . After 1945 he was part of the Norder local editorial staff of the Ostfriesen-Zeitung . In order to be able to support his family, he wrote numerous articles for the regional press and home calendar until his death .
Gustav Engelkes was the author of novels , short stories , books for young people , poems and plays . His works, which appeared during the Third Reich , are shaped by a national ideology; After 1945 ten of these works were on the " List of literature to be sorted out " in the Soviet zone or the early GDR .
