The German Susanna Noll works as an auctioneer in Rome. At an auction, she discovers that one of the pictures has most likely been forged.

She wants to solve the riddle around the picture and investigates on her own. She gets help from the wealthy jewelry designer Francesco Sabrini. Together they discover that there is a great crime behind the picture.
