The interior of the church

The parish church of St. Veit is a Roman Catholic church in the municipality of Paldau in Styria.

The Romanesque building from the first half of the 13th century was expanded to include a choir and tower between 1441 and 1455. In the three-bay nave with groin vaults and belts on pilasters, a Romanesque tuff stone masonry (opus spicatum) has been preserved in the north wall. The recessed choir with 3/8 end has a rich star rib vault with keystones, resting on wall brackets, the front arch is grooved, the walls with simple tracery windows structured with external buttresses. In the west there is an imagined bell tower with a keel arch portal and a square floor plan. In the north wall of the nave is a walled-up portal from 1759. In 1770 a sacristy with a portal was added, and the nave was supplemented with a three-bay organ loft with groin vaults. The bell storey with a pointed helmet is from 1894. In 1974, as part of an overall restoration, the church was extended on the south side with a simple rectangular room with an open roof.

In 1974 frescoes were uncovered, on the north wall of the choir a saint with angels, presumably St. Veit, from the middle of the 15th century, in the nave, on the side of the front arch, remains of frescoes of a Romanesque row of apostles in round arch architecture from the 1st half of the 13th century, parts of the frescoes above could not be interpreted due to lack of preservation.

The church furnishings were reorganized in 1974. The high altar is from the former Carmelite monastery (Landesgendarmerie-Kommando) in Graz from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century with figures by Philipp Jakob Straub and a picture of Mary in a rich frame. There are remains of a neo-Gothic facility from the end of the 19th century by Jakob Gschiel .

The late Gothic font is from the end of the 15th century.

Outside is a figure of St. Joseph from 1898.
