The parish church of Plank am Kamp is located directly on the Kamp west of the village of Plank am Kamp in the market town of Schönberg am Kamp in the Krems-Land district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. Nicholas of Myra belongs to the deanery Horn in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

A branch of Gars am Kamp was mentioned in a document in 1267. In the 14th century there was a vicariate, with 1476 a parish, and in 1530 another branch of Gars am Kamp. In 1783 the church was elevated to a parish church.

In 1676 the church was rebuilt using old parts. Numerous floods caused damage to the church, especially in 1803. In 1935 the church received an organ gallery and a porch.

architecture

The simple, undivided church building with a nave and a polygonal closed choir has arched windows from 1676. At the transition from the nave to the choir sits a roof turret with clock gables and an onion helmet from the second half of the 18th century. To the north is a sacristy annex . In the west there is an extension from 1935 with an outside staircase to the organ gallery, the portal vestibule is marked 1935. Remains of a Romanesque portal from the original building were uncovered on the north wall of the nave.

The interior of the church shows an elongated nave under a flat ceiling. The organ gallery was built in 1935. The retracted triumphal arch is rounded. The one-yoke choir has a five-eighth end , the choir yoke has a stitch cap vault, the end has strongly flared caps with trimmed ridges. The stained glass of St. Nicholas is from the 19th century.

To the north of the church is a walled cemetery. In 1900 an iron bridge crosses the Kamp River next to the church.

Furnishing

The high altar with a tabernacle structure is from the end of the 18th century. The sandstone baptismal font with a hunched basin on a baluster base was created in the second half of the 17th century.

Gustav Krämer (1946) painted an oil painting of the Holy Family, the Stations of the Cross, Secco painting in stucco framing .

The organ was built by the Mauracher brothers (1948).
