The Church of St. Stephen in Sattledt , Upper Austria, is a Roman Catholic parish church . She belongs to the dean's office in Kremsmünster .

history

Franz Stein (headmaster in Harhagen and Sattledt from 1880 to 1919) gave the impetus to build a church in the town that was newly created by the construction of the railway. In 1909 a church building association was founded to collect money. In 1912 a cross was erected on the planned building site and construction was to begin in 1914, but the First World War and the subsequent currency crisis with hyperinflation ruined the plans. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Catholic Sattledter Church took place on April 26, 1926 . Because of the difficult economic times, it was decided to block all the money collected immediately and to take breaks between the construction phases. On May 3, 1931, the church was consecrated and handed over to its services. The still unfinished church tower (stump tower) was the landmark of the place in the following years . The tower was completed on June 27, 1937, and the bells were consecrated on September 3, 1939.

A curiosity during the war years 1941–45 was the "tower pastor". Since there was no rectory yet and the Kremsmünster Abbey had been confiscated by the Gestapo , the priest responsible for Sattledt had to live in a room in the church tower. The family of the master blacksmith Maxwald, who lived next to it, took care of the pastor's household.

In 1948 a parsonage was finally built, which was finished in time for the parish elevation in 1950. In 1971 and 2000 the parish church underwent major renovations.

Since September 2007, the parish has had no more permanent priests in the village. The pastor of Sattledt is Father Arno Jungreithmair who, together with Vicar Father Siegfried Eder, looks after the parishes of Kremsmünster and Sattledt.
