The Roman Catholic parish church Schellenberg is located in the community Schellenberg in the Unterland in the Principality of Liechtenstein . It is the holy Immaculate Heart of Mary ordained and is in the Archdiocese of Vaduz . The church has been a listed building since 1992 .

In 1855 and 1856 the first church was built according to plans by Ferdinand Malang . The construction was carried out entirely from private funds. The church was consecrated in 1858 and handed over to the community in 1865. From 1858 the Schellenberg monastery was built in the immediate vicinity of the church . After a renovation, the church was consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1873. In 1874, Schellenberg became a curate after the parish of Bendern and in 1881 an independent parish. The original church was demolished in 1972.

Between 1960 and 1963, the new church was built at its current location according to plans by Eduard Ladner . It is the first modern church building in Liechtenstein. The design for the building was determined in the first international architecture competition in Liechtenstein. According to W. Walch, this is considered to be “a milestone in modern Liechtenstein architecture”.

Furnishing

The interior is kept sober. The marble altar was created by Georg Malin and the Madonna sculpture by Rico Galizia . The church windows are by Fritz Weigner .
