The Archdiocese of Vaduz ( Latin Archidioecesis Vadutiensis ) extends geographically to the territory of the Principality of Liechtenstein , making it one of the smallest archbishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .
history
The Archdiocese of Vaduz was established on December 2, 1997 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ad satius consulendum . Previously, as the Liechtenstein dean's office , the area was part of the Diocese of Chur . The public and solemn execution took place on December 21, 1997 in the parish church of St. Florin in Vaduz , which was elevated to a cathedral . The archdiocese is directly subordinate to the Holy See and does not belong to any bishops' conference . The establishment of the archbishopric made it possible to transfer the Liechtenstein bishop of the Chur diocese, Wolfgang Haas , who was controversial in his diocese due to his conservative views, to nearby Vaduz.
