The Roman Catholic parish church Triesenberg , also known as the parish church "Prince Josef Wenzel", is located in the municipality of Triesenberg in the Oberland in the Principality of Liechtenstein . It is consecrated to St. Joseph and is located in the Archdiocese of Vaduz .

history

In the years 1767 and 1768 the church "Prince Josef Wenzel" was built. It was elevated to a parish church in 1768. It was consecrated in 1769. In addition to Saint Joseph, Saints Theodul , Rochus and Sebastian are other patron saints. The original church was an east-facing, single-nave, longitudinal building with three window axes and a retracted choir closed on three sides . The church tower on the north side had an onion helmet . The high altar was in the choir, two other side altars in the nave. In 1827 two bells were consecrated. In 1839 a new ceiling painting was created. After a renovation in 1877, the church was demolished in 1938.

In 1938 and 1939, today's church was built according to plans by Otto Linder from Stuttgart . It was consecrated in 1940. Renovations took place in 1986 and 2000.

architecture

The Triesenberg parish church is an octagonal central building made of massive quarry stone masonry, which is broken through by a basilica longitudinal structure. The nave is under a cross-gable and hipped roof. The choir is closed on three sides, with the death chapel on the north side. In the south there is a squat church tower with a sacristy . The tower is crowned by an onion dome.

Furnishing

The baptismal font by Johann Baptist Saltzgeber from 1768 was transferred from the old church . There is a crucifixion group in the choir . These and the paintings on the glass windows were created according to designs by Johannes Troyer in 1939 and 1940. The high altar and tabernacle were created around 1939/40, the celebration altar and ambo made of Carrara marble are by Hugo Marxer from 2000.
