The parish church of St. Josef am Ossiacher See is on the western edge of Bodensdorf in the municipality of Steindorf .

description

The north-facing church was built in 1929 according to plans by Hans Prutscher . A recessed round apse adjoins the nave, which is supported by two-tier quarry stone buttresses. A square turret with an onion helmet rises above the conical roof of the apse . The tower at the south-west corner of the nave, divided by pilaster strips with rectangular sound openings, ends in a sheet metal cube with an onion helmet. In 1931 Josef Gruber painted the sheet metal cube with depictions of the four seasons, each grouped around a clock face designed in the middle. The entrance to the tower is formed by a round arched portal made of rubble stones. The south facade, closed off by a triangular gable, is structured by three window openings on top of each other. The reveal of the south portal is emphasized by quarry stones, the wooden door is designed with a geometric ornament.

In the hall-like nave, a wooden ceiling reminiscent of a ship's floor conceals the barrel vault . The arched windows are located above the continuous sills. The south pore with its strongly swinging gallery bay window stands on concrete supports. The apse consists of curved surfaces tapering on four sides and is illuminated through window slits hidden behind the triumphal arch wall.

Facility

The altar

The high altar from the time the church was built has a crucifix with angels on the side and late Art Nouveau ornamentation . In the choir hang the modern paintings of the Holy Family and the calling of Peter . The Baroque figures of Mary and Joseph from the 20th century are placed on the triumphal arch wall. The painting by Laurentiusmarter, based on a copy after Titian , was donated in 1624 by Abbot Gregor Wilhelm Schweitzer from Ossiach . A Gothic carved figure of the risen Christ from the end of the 15th century is kept in the sacristy .
