The Roman Catholic parish church Steinbach am Attersee stands on a hill in the municipality of Steinbach am Attersee in the Vöcklabruck district in Upper Austria . It is consecrated to St. Andrew and belongs to the Schörfling pastoral care room in the Schörfling dean's office . The church is a listed building .

history

In the middle of the 19th century, statuettes of pagan deities were found during excavations in the cemetery around the church. This indicates that Celts and Romans were already settled at this place. A legend tells of a hot water spring near the church and of caves in the church hill. Therefore, the use as a pagan cult site is obvious. A Christian church at this point is attested for the year 760. The first documentary mention comes from the year 1276. The construction time of today's church is not certain, but the construction of the tower is assumed to be around 1410. The late Gothic church building from 1516, which is around 100 years younger , was built under the construction company Stefan Wultinger from Wilding near Vöcklamarkt.

Church building

The sacred building is a two-aisled hall church in the late Gothic style. The naves are four-bay and vaulted with two parallel ribs. There are star ribs in the last Langhausjoch. The retracted choir with ribbed vault is single-yoke and closed by a 5/8 end. The west gallery has four axes and is broken twice by two angular protrusions. It rests on ribbed vaults with pointed arches and pillars with a diamond pattern. In the west, the church tower connects to the nave. The tower, which is square in the lower part, merges into an octagonal bell chamber in the upper part and is crowned by a baroque onion helmet . A late Gothic portal with a vestibule is embedded in the south wall of the nave.

The glass windows date from 1516. The southern nave window bears the coat of arms of Salzburg's Archbishop Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg .

Furnishing

The furnishings are in the neo-Gothic style. The upper part of the wooden high altar has statues of saints.

The "Steinbacher Binder Crib", which was created in 1965 by the sculptor Franz Binder, has been set up in the parish church since 1985.

organ

In 1922 the church got a new organ, as the old organ from 1649 was no longer operational. This organ was again replaced by an electronic one in 1980. Since April 2002, a pipe organ inaugurated by Linz Bishop Maximilian Aichern has been playing in place of this temporary arrangement.
