Horse Street (Rostock)

The Rostocker Pferdestraße is a street in the historic center of the Hanseatic city . It is part of the former Rostock old town .

The Pferdestraße leads from the intersection of the streets Beim Sankt Katharinenstift / Alte Straße / Amberg in the north to the intersection with Hartestraße in the south.

Horse Street was a downright side street; it was only mentioned explicitly in 1588. It probably got its name from blacksmiths in its southern section. The Rostock city fire of 1677 completely destroyed it, but the west side survived the bombing raids of April 1942 without damage.

On the west side of today's horse street, partially renovated granaries are reminiscent of past centuries. In 2006/2007, on the eastern corner of Hartestrasse and Pferdestrasse, the last larger wasteland from the war and GDR times was built with attractive townhouses. Since then, old and new have been in a successful dialogue. Coordinates: 54 ° 5 ′ 27.1 ″  N , 12 ° 8 ′ 43.2 ″  E
