Ph.D. (Tape)
Ph.D. was a three-member British Soul - pop band .
Career
It was founded in the early 1980s by the Scottish musician and singer Jim Diamond . Their only hit was the single I Won't Let You Down , with which the trio achieved international success in 1982. The band name, the English acronym for Philosophiae Doctor , was derived from the initials of the family names of the three members Simon Phillips (drums); Tony Hymas (keyboards) - both former members of the Jeff Beck Band - and Diamond. A short time after the release of the second album Is It Safe? was diagnosed with hepatitis at Diamond , so that numerous scheduled performances had to be canceled. A little later the band split up.
In 2006, Jim Diamond and Tony Hymas reunited and released a new album in 2009.
Jim Diamond died unexpectedly in his sleep on October 8, 2015.
