The Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU), in German the association of pharmacists in the European Union (ZAEU), is the European interest group of public pharmacists . He represents pharmacists' associations in 30 European countries, including EU member states as well as candidate countries and EFTA countries. Overall, the pharmacy sector in the European Union employs around half a million people. Almost 400,000 pharmacists are represented by the ZAEU.

development

In 1959, the ZAEU was launched as a platform for the exchange of information and know-how, parallel to the establishment of the EC. Over the years, the ZAEU's field of activity has expanded considerably, as it has adapted to the changed circumstances in the pharmacy profession and in the development of Europe.

Today the ZAEU analyzes and influences the activities of the EC organs and other relevant decision-makers regarding the health system in order to ensure that the legal framework conditions support the pharmacists on their behalf for human health. He maintains many contacts with other organizations that deal with health; especially with consumer protection organizations such as the BEUC .

structure

Four people work in the office of their permanent representation in Brussels , gathering, analyzing and passing on important information, preparing legal opinions and advising the Commission on important decisions relating to the pharmacy sector. The General Assembly meets three times a year, in which the delegations from the individual member states make all important decisions, for example about ZAEU policy or the annual budget. After the General Assembly in June each year, the ZAEU organizes a symposium at which experts from European institutions, national authorities, the pharmaceutical industry and various patient associations are present. The board always meets once a month; the presidency rotates annually. Since the ZAEU is active in very different subject areas, it creates additional working groups on individual subjects that support the secretariat and the board in their work.
