The phasmid Study Group (about: Study Group Gespenstschrecken ) is a society of Gespenstschrecken interested. Since it was founded in 1980, more than 500 members from over 30 countries have joined the working group. Among them are both enthusiasts and all professional entomologists who are engaged in the order of the ghosts.

The greatest achievement of the group is the establishment of an internationally standardized list of around 400 terrarium species of ghosts. Each species or local variety is assigned a number (PSG number), which is used by enthusiasts and entomologists in particular for the exchange of animals, but also serves to ensure a uniform naming of scientifically undescribed species and local varieties. For example, the species described as Lonchodiodes samarensis in 2007 was previously known as Carausius spec. PSG 230 designated. In addition to the name, the PSG Culture List also lists the subfamily, size, origin, forage plants and references to further information for each species. The species currently in breeding will be included in the PSG list if corresponding specimen copies are made available from the collection of the Natural History Museum in London .

In addition to a quarterly newsletter, members also receive so-called Phasmid Studies , which contain longer articles. Meetings are organized twice a year, mostly in the Natural History Museum in London. In addition to information, the insects themselves can also be exchanged at these meetings.
