The Philadelphia Fusion is an American professional Overwatch esports team based in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania currently competing in the Inaugural Overwatch League (OWL) season . The Philadelphia Fusion is one of twelve founding members of the OWL and is led by Tucker Roberts, son of Comcast CEO Brian Roberts.

history

The Philadelphia Fusion was announced as part of the Atlantic Division of the first twelve Overwatch teams made up of a diverse group of players and teams from the EU, Israel and South Korea. Visa issues resulted in the team not being able to attend the preseason and playing together for the first time shortly before the start of Phase 1. Visa issues also resulted in Eqo's debut being postponed until the start of phase 2 and SADO being banned for account boosting until the start of stage 3. Despite these personal problems, the team took seventh place in stage 1 and third place in stage 2. With their third place they reached the Stage 2 playoffs and defeated the heavily favored London Spitfire in the semifinals before losing a highly competitive five-game series to the New York Excelsior in the finals and finishing second in the Stage 2 playoffs with winnings of Ended $ 25,000.

In stages 3 and 4 the team did not reach any further stage finals, but was able to take part in the Overwatch League Grand Finals due to its overall placement in 6th place.

The team first had to face Boston Uprising in the quarterfinals. The overall duel ended 2-1 for Philadelphia. In the semifinals, the team now played against the team New York Excelsior, which was ranked number 1, with Philadelphia being seen as a clear underdog. Despite this, the team won 2-0, even defeating NYXL for the first time in set 1 without them being able to score a single point (final score of set 1: 3-0).

In the final, the team then faced the London Spitfire and was defeated 2-0. Despite the defeat, the team was very pleased with the final result in the first season.
