Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters, Inc. ( PTC for short ) is one of the oldest roller coaster manufacturers in the world. The company was founded in 1904 in Hatfield, Pennsylvania , USA , by Henry Auchey and Chester Albright. The company manufactured carousels , wooden roller coasters, sleds and roller coaster trains.

history

PTC built and constructed roller coasters until 1979, in total the company built 127 roller coasters. Well-known designers were Joe McKee, John A. Miller , Herbert Schmeck , Frank Hoover, and John C. Allen . When John Allen resigned from his position as managing director in 1976, the construction of roller coasters was discontinued. But he continued to work on roller coaster projects until he left the roller coaster business in 1979.

Jane's Carousel

The company also made carousels, which were known for their intricate carvings and decorations. Leading carvers were Daniel Carl Muller, Leo Zoller, John Zalar and Frank Caretta. A well-known PTC carousel from 1922 is located in New York on the East River between Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge and is called Jane's Carousel.

On November 27, 1991, Tom Rebbie and Bill Dauphinee bought the Philadelphia Toboggan Company from previous owner Sam High and soon after founded the new Philadelphia Toboggan Coaster . Today the company manufactures roller coaster trains, queue gates and final brakes.
