Philinos of Kos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philinos of Kos was an ancient Greek doctor. He lived in the 3rd century BC. Chr.

Philinos was a student of Herophilos of Chalcedon and the founder of the empirical medical school, where he partly broke with the teachings of Herophilos. For the doctors of the empirical school, one of the principles that applied was that they had to have precise knowledge of the drugs and their effects. Philinos was therefore also a fan of pharmacology . Serapion of Alexandria is considered to be his successor in the empirical school .
