from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philip "Phil" Boswell (born July 23, 1963 in Coatbridge ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP). He is married and has a father of three. Boswell worked as an engineer in the Scottish oil industry.

Political career

In the British general election in 2015 , Boswell ran for the SNP in his home constituency of Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill . He competed against Labor MP Thomas Clarke , who has represented the constituency in the British House of Commons since it was introduced in 2005 and had already won mandates from the previous constituencies. With the massive gains in votes by the SNP in these elections, Boswell succeeded in asserting himself against Clarke, who had 66.6% of the votes in the previous elections. As a result, Boswell moved into the House of Commons for the first time.

With the loss of 17.5% of the vote compared to the previous election, Boswell lost his mandate in the early lower house elections in 2017 and left parliament. The constituency mandate went to Labor candidate Hugh Gaffney .
