Philip Cosgrave

Philip Cosgrave († October 23, 1923 ) was an Irish politician and member of the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament .

Cosgrave was elected in 1921 in the constituency of Dublin North-West for the Sinn Féin in the 2nd Dáil Éireann. In the 1922 elections for the 3rd Dáil Éireann, he was able to defend his mandate. As a MP, Cosgrave was one of the supporters of the Anglo-Irish Treaty . Accordingly, he ran for the Cumann na nGaedheal in the Dublin South constituency in 1923 . His death just eight weeks after winning this election meant that a by-election to fill his seat in the 4th Dáil Éireann had to be held on March 12, 1924. James O'Mara moved up for him in the House of Commons.

Philip Cosgrave was the older brother of the Irish politician William Thomas Cosgrave .
