Philipp Andreas Oldenburger (* around 1620 in the Duchy of Celle (?); † 1678 in Geneva ) was a German legal scholar .

Live and act

Philipp Andreas Oldenburger studied law at the University of Helmstedt ; Hermann Conring was one of his academic teachers . After completing his studies, he was offered a professorship in law at the University of Geneva .

Oldenburger achieved contemporary notoriety with a broader audience with his book "Constantini Germanici ...", published in 1669, in which he described intimate details from life at German royal courts. The book was confiscated in many principalities and nevertheless became widely used in secret. Oldenburger itself was exposed to sharp criticism from aristocratic circles. According to tradition, he is said to have been "physically abused by a prince whose love affairs he had chatted to force him to devour two sheets of his writing."

In legal circles, Oldenburger was considered controversial. Among other things, he was accused of plagiarism . His former teacher Hermann Conring reprimanded him because he published his college notebook on national studies against Conring's express will and provided his own comments.
