Philipp Breuer ( November 20, 1811 in Alzey - November 27, 1851 in Wiesbaden ) was a German theater actor .

Life

Breuer had to earn his living at an early age and because he felt an enthusiastic love for dramatic art, he became an actor. His external means facilitated his endeavors, a pleasant organ and a graceful figure support his talent and so, barely matured into a youth, he was the first to join a management that specifically traveled the Rhine. It was applauded everywhere.

After he had made long guest appearances in Hamburg, Bremen, Lübeck etc., an application lured him to Frankfurt. Here he performed as “Hamlet” and was so popular that he was immediately offered a five-year contract, which was later renewed. He played almost every day and used every free time for guest trips.

However, these artistic efforts wore out his health and he should have to divorce at the prime of life. Hamlet's last words, “the rest is silence”, would also become his meaningful last words on stage.

He went to the cold water sanatorium near Wiesbaden to rest and recover and wanted to resume his artistic activity there. Frankfurt only saw him again as a corpse. He died in Wiesbaden on November 27, 1851. Besides Hamlet, his most outstanding roles were "Carlos", "Posa", "Bolingbroke" and "Heinrich IV". The memory of these achievements remained alive in Frankfurt long after his death.
