Philipps food

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philippsessen , originally also: Philippsmemorie , with 800 years of history one of the oldest events of its kind in Germany, held every year by the Soest City Council with officially invited guests in the historic courtyard. The Philippine meal continued into the 17th century and was officially reintroduced in 1955 .

history

The Philippsessen originally goes back to a foundation in memory of the city lord of Soest, the Archbishop of Cologne, Philipp von Heinsberg, who died in 1191 . It is the only festival that the city council could not cancel in 1524 , when Soest was already in decline. The oldest evidence of the festive meal is a city bill from 1338, but the meal is likely to go back to three memories in honor of the city lord, who had Soest expanded into his residence in Westphalia . The original tradition was maintained until the Thirty Years' War , but could no longer be maintained afterwards due to the catastrophic economic situation of the city.
