Philips van der Aa
Philips van der Aa (* in Mechelen ; † after 1586 ) was an Orange lawyer and statesman during the Dutch struggle for independence in the Eighty Years' War .
Van der Aa became mayor of Mechelen in 1564 . After the city was conquered by the Duke of Alba , he was exiled. He returned at the side of William of Orange , with whom he stood in great confidence.
In 1572 he regained control of the city by cunning. In 1573 Wilhelm von Oranien assigned him to the court of Dietrich Sonoy as an advisor and in 1575 appointed him commander in Gorkum .
